Organ Donation Day
is observed every year on 13th of August. Due to lack of awareness, there
are myths and fears in peoples’ mind about organ donation. The aim of this day
is to motivate normal human beings to pledge to donate organs after death and
to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Organ Donation is donating a donor's organs like heart, liver,
kidneys, intestines, lungs, and pancreas, after the donor dies, for the purpose
of transplanting them into another person who is in need of an organ.
Organ Failures Becoming Almost an Epidemic Now, According
to a survey In India every year about 500,000 people die because of
non-availability of organs, 200,000 people die due to liver disease, and 50,000
people die because of heart disease. Moreover, 150,000 people await a kidney
transplant but only 5,000 get among them.
In Our Country there are rising incidence of
Diabetes and Hyper-tension and this is causing many organ failures. A single organ
donation of a person who passed away can save upto 9 Lives.
The Huge Shortage of the Organs in the Country,
Looks Like the only way forward is to spread the word, that the every single
person you and I included can save more than just one life.
There is not a sense of clarity when it comes to organ
donation. Since there are two kinds of organ donations
Live Donation: While most solid
organ and tissue donations occur after the donor has died, some organs and
tissues can be donated while the donor is alive.Some living donations take
place between people unknown to each other.
Cadaveric donation: Cadaveric donation comprises
organ donation—that is, taking organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas)
from brain dead people, as well as tissue donation, meaning taking tissues
(skin, corneas, tendons, bone) from brain dead as well as heart dead people.
Public is getting aware as to organ donation can save so
many lives not just one life. Someone can donate their heart, lungs, kidney,
lever, the pancreas, all the tissues in the body basically it is about
recycling your body!

stories about organ donation that’s what catches the people’s imagination they
realize if someone else can do that why can’t we? Organ Donation is happening.

front-runner when it comes to organ donation. Tamil Nadu is one of the major
healthcare sectors since more than 15 years. Government is also playing a major
role by putting good policies and lot of mechanism to it. Past 2 years there
are more than 120 organ donors alone from Tamil Nadu. Organ donation rate is Tamil
Nadu is 1per million population that is 10 times more than the national
average.
The campaigns done by various organizations, Private
Hospitals are contributing, Government is coming in, People’s will to do organ donation, this as joint
efforts will go a long way and will make a difference.
